Spontoon Pipe Tomahawk with "Buffalo Head" styled blade. This Spontoon Pipe Tomahawk is part of three huge Native American Collections I bought. The items have all been collected up and put away for decades. This Spontoon Pipe Tomahawk head shows excellent deep aged patina. The blacksmith forged head is a work of art. The haft also shows wonderful age and soft metal inlay.

The collection notes have this as 1860 period. I personally think it is later era example. The earliest examples with this design the "Horns" were functional blade catchers. The later examples I believe the blade catchers turned more decorative. Not to say the former owner was wrong but, I believe this beauty is a later example. This haft is beautiful and no way to know if been replace over the years. I have added other examples from my library. Enjoy the images and much more coming.
