First Model Griswold and Gunnison Confederate Revolver

$22,500.00   SOLD

First Model Griswold and Gunnison Confederate Revolver with Rebel Relics Strong condition.  This First Model Griswold and Gunnison Confederate Revolver has a nice working action.  This Confederate Revolver is published on page 28 of Robert Abel’s book.  The book was published in 1950 called Early American Firearms.  This First Model Griswold and Gunnison Confederate Revolver is one of the first published Confederate Revolvers.  This Confederate Revolver is well known.  It is absolutely another World Famous Rebel Relics Classic.  It was formally owned by Henry Stewart.  He purchased this Confederate Revolver from a barber in Lexington, Virginia.  He was attending the Virginia Military Academy at that time.  This First Model Griswold and Gunnison Confederate Revolver was also part of the Ben Michel Collection.  Currently part of the Brian “Rebel” Akins revolving collection.

The serial number is 810.  The serial number is strong on the brass frame.  The 810 strike on the iron frame is visible but weak.  This First Model Griswold and Gunnison Confederate Revolver was cleaned many years ago.  The patina is coming back.  That said the iron does give us a beautiful clear study of the forging.  I love Civil War Relics and this Confederate Revolver is Rebel Strong.  The iron has all the Southern forging traits we love.  The brass frame has picture perfect Southern casting.  We have the crude but crisp casting flaws.  The brass has that deep Southern Red Brass mixture.  I love the reddish look to Southern Brass weapons and weapons hardware.  This frame could very well be a melted down Southern Church Bell.  This is an original Confederate Revolver with all the correct parts.  The internal parts have the correct markings.  The original wood grips are also marked.  This First Model Griswold and Gunnison Confederate Revolver has a nice working action.

If you have never read about Sam Griswold you should.  He was actually a Yankee from Windsor, Connecticut.  In short order, Sam  Griswold bought a large tract of land.  There he established Griswoldville and the all important manufacturing center.  He built a foundry, planing mill, saw mill, grist mill, and plenty of other buildings.  He had around a 100 slaves working and living at Griswoldville.  Sam Griswold also made the Southern Pikes we love.  This First Model Griswold and Gunnison Confederate Revolver is truly a Southern Treasure.  I wish I was in the Land of Cotton Old Times there are Not Forgotten Look Away … Look Away Dixie Land.
